General information

The multi-drug and alcohol saliva test can detect the presence of alcohol and four classes of drugs in saliva. The detection thresholds, indicating the minimum concentration required in saliva for a positive result, are:

  • Simultaneously detects alcohol and cannabis (Δ9-THC)

  • synthetic cannabinoids

  • amphetamines

  • methamphetamines

  • cocaine

  • opiates (including heroin).

    High threshold: COC 20 / MET 50 / THC 50 / AMP 50 / OPI 40 / K2 30 / ALC

    Convenient and hassle-free sampling.

Compact and innovative: easy to transport and use.

Contents of the bag

A foil pouch contains a screening test with its cap.

Precautions for use

Please read all information in this leaflet before performing the test.

  1. This test is intended for external use only. DO NOT SWALLOW.
  2. The test can only be interpreted if the instructions are scrupulously followed. Carefully observe the times indicated.
  3. Store between +2°C and +30°C. DO NOT FREEZE.
  4. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the label and on the protective bag, or if the bag is damaged.
  5. Single-use test.
  6. Keep out of reach of children.
  7. After use, dispose of non-recyclable waste and sort recyclable waste according to local guidelines.

Instructions for use

Wait for the device to reach room temperature between 15 and 30°C before starting the test.

  1. Do not eat, smoke or drink for 10 minutes before taking the test.
  2. The test must be used within one hour of opening the sachet.
  3. Remove the cap and place the test in your mouth. Only the sponge should be placed in your mouth.
  4. See the illustration below. After placing the sponge in the mouth, the test should not be oriented vertically downwards, and the angle of inclination from the horizontal should not exceed 45°.
  5. A pink migration appears. Caution, do not remove from the mouth before the pink migration reaches the control line (C), this may cause invalid migration. The time it takes for migration to occur can vary depending on the individual. Once removed, start the timer.
  6. For alcohol, read the result after 1 to 2 minutes, and compare the color of the reaction pad with the color scale to determine the alcohol level in the saliva.
  7. Negative results can be interpreted after 2 minutes, while positive results should be checked after 10 minutes. Do not consider results after 20 minutes.

Interpretation of results

DOPE

POSITIVE

BAND 1, 2, 3 and 4 NOT VISIBLE.

The test is positive when a band appears next to the C (control) mark and no band appears at the corresponding mark.

A positive result means you should not undertake actions requiring increased alertness such as driving a vehicle.

NEGATIVE

BAND 1, 2, 3 or 4 VISIBLE

The test is negative when a band appears next to the C (control) mark and a band also appears at the corresponding mark. The intensity of the lines varies. A line 1, 2, 3, or 4, even if very faint, indicates a negative result.

INVALID

BAND C NOT VISIBLE

The test is invalid when the control band (C mark) does not appear. This most often occurs when the instructions in the package insert are not followed. Read the instructions and start again with a new test.

ALCOHOL

Using the color scale, compare the color obtained to determine the alcohol concentration, 1 to 2 minutes after performing the test. The color scale is also located on the back of the bag. It is prohibited to drive with a blood alcohol level greater than or equal to 0.5 g/L (or 0.2 g/L if you have a probationary license).

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

How does the Medisur multi-drug and alcohol saliva test work?

Using antibodies against Δ9-THC, opiates, amphetamines, and cocaine, the multi-drug and alcohol saliva test reveals the presence of one or more of these four drugs. If the concentration of these compounds rises to a certain threshold, the test is positive.

For alcohol, the strip works through two chemical reactions. The ALox enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of ethanol (EtOH) to acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Peroxidase uses hydrogen peroxide to oxidize tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), which changes color (blue), indicating the presence of alcohol.

When can it be done?

The test can be performed on a saliva sample obtained at any time of day. However, you should not eat, drink, or smoke for 10 minutes before taking the test.

How long can cannabis/opiates/amphetamines/cocaine be detected in saliva?

Medisur's multi-drug and alcohol saliva test can detect the consumption of:

– Cannabis: 30 minutes to 12 hours on average. Detection time varies depending on consumption and the individual.

– Opiates: 1 hour to 7-9 p.m. after consumption depending on the dose.

– Amphetamines: 5 to 10 minutes up to 72 hours after consumption depending on the dose.

– Cocaine: 5 to 10 minutes up to 24 hours after consumption depending on the dose.

Can we get wrong results?

For the test to be reliable, the instructions in the package leaflet must be followed scrupulously. The quantity and quality of the saliva collected will be decisive for obtaining a correct result. Indeed, the result can be distorted if the test is wet before taking it, or if the quantity of saliva impregnated by the test is not sufficient. It is therefore important to remove the test from the mouth when the pink migration reaches the control lines C.

I didn't apply enough saliva to the Medisur Multi-Drug and Alcohol Saliva Test. Will I get an accurate result?

No, if the saliva volume is not sufficient, the test may give a false negative or be invalid.

What is the purpose of the line that appears next to the C (Control) mark?

If the line next to the C mark appears, it means the Medisur Multi-Drug and Alcohol Saliva Test worked. If the line next to the C mark does not appear, it means the test did not work. You should then start again with a new test.

I read the result after 20 minutes. Will I get a reliable result?

No, the result must be read 10 minutes after performing the Medisur multi-drug and alcohol saliva test, in accordance with the test instructions provided in the package insert. After 20 minutes, the interpretation of the results is no longer reliable.

How to interpret the test if the intensity of lines 1, 2, 3, 4 and C are different?

The intensity of the lines is irrelevant for reading the results. The lines must be visible, homogeneous, and continuous to be interpreted. The appearance of lines 1, 2, 3, or 4 of low intensity is considered a negative result.

What should I do if the result is positive?

If the result is positive, it means that the test detected one or more of the four drugs or alcohol in the saliva. You should not undertake any action requiring your full attention or concentration, such as driving a vehicle.

What should I do if the result is negative?

If the result is negative and you have not used drugs, there are no special precautions to take.

IMPORTANT

A negative result does not necessarily mean that the sample does not contain any psychoactive substances. Substances below the test's detection threshold may be present in the saliva sample.

IF IN DOUBT, DON'T DRIVE!
