BIOLOGY OF THE URINARY CANNABIS SELF-TEST

PRINCIPLE OF THE MEDISUR URINARY CANNABIS SELF-TEST

The test is based on the use of antibodies specific for THC and its derivatives. The test is able to detect in the urine a concentration of 50µg/L above which the result is positive.

The objective of this test is to detect cannabis consumption dating from 30 min to 7 days. It is not a tool allowing the user to avoid police checks. How does the Medisur Cannabis Urine Test work?
Following cannabis consumption, the body eliminates some of its metabolites in the urine. Using antibodies capable of recognizing these metabolites, the Medisur Cannabis Urine Test reveals their presence. If the concentration of these metabolites is greater than 50 ng/ml, the test is positive.
When can the test be performed? The test can be performed on a urine sample obtained at any time of day.
Do I need to follow a particular diet? Drinking an abnormal amount of fluid can affect the test. If the subject drinks too much the day before the test, the test will be falsely negative. If the subject does not drink enough the day before the test, the test will be falsely positive.
How long does cannabis last in urine?
The urine of an occasional user will test positive 30 minutes after consumption for a period of 3 to 10 days on average. The urine of a regular user, however, can retain traces of cannabis use for several weeks.
Can we get wrong results? For the test to be reliable, the instructions in the leaflet must be followed precisely. The quantity and quality of the urine sample are crucial for obtaining an accurate result. The result can be inaccurate if the cassette is wet before the test or if the amount of urine deposited in the sample well of the cassette is insufficient. I put more than 3 drops in the well. Will I get an accurate result? Yes, but it is advisable to respect the recommended volume (3 drops).
I put less than 3 drops in the well. Will I get an accurate result? No. If the urine volume is less than 3 drops, the test may be invalid.
I read the result after 10 minutes. Will I get a reliable result? No. The result must be read 5 minutes after depositing the 3 drops of urine into the well of the test cassette, according to the instructions for use given in the package insert. After 10 minutes, the interpretation of the test result is no longer reliable.
How to interpret the test if the intensity of the T and C lines are different? The intensity of the lines is irrelevant for reading the result. The lines only need to be uniform and continuous.
What is the purpose of the line that appears under the marker C (Control)?
If the line under marker C appears, it means the test was successful. If the line under marker C does not appear, it means the test failed.
Then you have to start again with a new test.
What should I do if the result is positive? If the result is positive, it means the test detected more than 50 ng/ml of THC in your urine, indicating that you have recently used cannabis. You should not engage in any activity requiring your full attention or concentration, such as driving. Stop using cannabis and take another test several days later. With regular use, the test may remain positive for several weeks.
What should I do if the result is negative? If the result is negative, there are no special precautions to take.

Positive
The test is positive when only one band appears in the reading window below the C (Control) mark. This result means that the urine contains cannabis derivatives in a concentration above the threshold above which the attention required for risky activities is impaired.
You should not undertake an action requiring your full attention or concentration, such as driving a vehicle.
Negative
The test is negative when two bands appear in the reading window below the T (Test) and C (Control) markers. This means that the urine does not contain cannabis derivatives, or that it contains a level below the threshold of 50 ng/ml.
The intensity of line T may be less than the intensity of line C. This does not change the result obtained.
Invalid
The test is invalid if no band appears or if only one band appears in the reading window under the T (Test) mark. This most often occurs when the instructions in the manual are not followed correctly.
