BIOLOGY OF THE CANNABIS THC15 SALIVARY SELF-TEST

The ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST reveals the presence of Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, present in marijuana, in saliva.

If the concentration of Δ9-THC is greater than or equal to 15 ng/mL, the test is positive.

∆9-THC is the main psychoactive component of cannabis. After consumption, it is found in this form in the saliva. Cannabis consumption can lead to disorders of the central nervous system, by altering sensory perception, coordination and memory. Consumers also describe other symptoms such as paranoia, anxiety, depression, confusion, hallucinations and increased heart rate. These various effects have a negative influence on the ability to drive a vehicle.

Generality

EPIDEMIOLOGY OF THE CANNABIS THC15 SALIVARY SELF-TEST

In 2014, 17 million people declared having taken cannabis in their lifetime, 4.6 million during the year, 1.4 million at least 10 times during the month and 700,000 daily.

PRINCIPLE OF THE CANNABIS SALIVARY SELF-TEST

Medisur's THC 15ng/mL cannabis saliva self-test can detect cannabis consumption over a short period of a few hours (on average up to 12 hours for an occasional user), depending on the dose.

In an occasional user, i.e. consuming cannabis less than 2 times a week, it can be estimated that a saliva test, carried out with a device authorized for the screening tests provided for in Articles R. 235-3 and R. 235-4 of the Highway Code (saliva tests used by the National Gendarmerie and the National Police; detection threshold: 15 ng/mL), will be positive at least until the 12th hour following the last consumption. It is therefore recommended to wait at least 12 hours after the last consumption to do the saliva cannabis test, if it is negative then in the majority of cases, the saliva test carried out by the gendarmerie would be negative.

PURPOSE OF THE CANNABIS SALIVARY SELF-TEST

The objective of this test is to detect recent cannabis consumption, a window when the consumer is still under the effect of the drug. It allows to become aware, after the use of cannabis, of the presence of THC in the body.

This is a tool for self-assessing one's physical condition after consumption. It is a test for the benefit of the consumer and those around them to help with dialogue and care.

It is not a tool allowing the user to avoid police checks. The consumption of cannabis, unlike alcohol, being prohibited in France, the tests of the gendarmerie detect "the slightest trace". The driver will face heavy criminal penalties.

FAQs

How does the Medisur ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST work?

Using antibodies against Δ9-THC, the ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST reveals the presence of this compound, found in marijuana, in saliva. If the concentration of Δ9-THC is greater than or equal to 15 ng/mL, the test is positive.

When can it be done?

The test can be performed on a saliva sample obtained at any time of day. However, you should not eat, drink, or smoke for 10 minutes before taking the test.

How long does cannabis take to be detected?

The Medisur ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST can detect cannabis use from 30 minutes to an average of 12 hours. The detection time varies depending on the level of consumption.

Can we get wrong results?

For the test to be reliable, the instructions in the package leaflet must be followed carefully. The quantity and quality of the saliva collected will be decisive for obtaining a correct result. Indeed, the result can be distorted if the test is wet before taking it, or if the quantity of saliva impregnated by the test is not sufficient. It is therefore important to remove the saliva collector only when the saturation indicator has turned pink/red.

I didn't saturate the Medisur ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST with enough saliva. Will I get an accurate result?

No, if the saliva volume is not sufficient, the test may give a false negative or be invalid.

What is the purpose of the line that appears next to the C (Control) mark?

If the line next to marker C appears, it means the Medisur ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST was successful. If the line next to marker C does not appear, it means the test was unsuccessful. You must then repeat the test.

I read the result after 20 minutes. Will I get a reliable result?

No, the result must be read 10 minutes after performing the Medisur ONETEST+ SALIVA CANNABIS TEST, according to the test instructions in the leaflet. After 20 minutes, the interpretation of the results is no longer reliable.

How to interpret the test if the intensity of the T and C lines are different?

The intensity of the lines is irrelevant for interpreting the results. The lines only need to be uniform and continuous. The appearance of weak T and C lines is considered a negative result.

What should I do if the result is positive?

If the result is positive, it means the test detected the presence of THC in your saliva. You should not undertake any activity requiring your full attention or concentration, such as driving a vehicle.

What should I do if the result is negative?

If the result is negative and you have not consumed THC, there are no special precautions to take.

Reliability

90 saliva samples were collected from subjects who had consumed cannabis. These samples were submitted to the OneTest+ Cannabis Saliva Test, and the results were confirmed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The following results were obtained:
