Group commitments Colas

Colas attaches paramount importance to the health and safety of its employees with the ambition of “zero accidents”.

Our objective is to consolidate a health and safety culture at the global level.

With this in mind, Colas is committed to numerous preventive actions to reduce health and workplace accident risks. The deployment of the “One Safety” program in all group entities demonstrates Colas’ commitment to establishing a true safety culture.

What were your challenges linked to your prevention action?

The consumption of psychoactive substances (PAS) in a professional environment can generate risks for the employee or third parties, particularly accidental, due to the impairment of capacities caused. It is in this context that the company has an obligation to ensure the health and safety of its employees, particularly for so-called “risky” positions with awareness raising and screening.

Why did you choose Medisur?

We have been supporting the Colas group in corporate health and safety prevention for more than four years. Our prevention actions take place from January to July each year throughout France. Our speaker, an expert in addiction, travels throughout France to raise awareness among employees and managers.

What actions have you set up with Medisur?

Awareness-raising events are organized regularly to inform employees and managers about the risks linked to the consumption of SPA.

It takes place in small groups to encourage proximity and discussion. This makes it easier to lift taboos on the consumption of SPA and to let each employee express themselves freely. It is often a question of deconstructing preconceived ideas in order not to minimize the dangers to one's safety and that of others.

    • Common information for all employees, collaborators and managers on psychoactive substances and their mode of action;
    • Active teaching to interact with employees and encourage them to become aware of the risks;

For managers, it will be a matter of providing them with expertise on regulations and the prevention role they have to play in business.

What are the profits of this awareness?

At Colas, the implementation of regular training and awareness campaigns allows all employees to be involved in “zero accidents”. It is a way for each site to keep informed of new regulations and to adapt the company's action plan in terms of health and safety.

Managers learn to better assess and prevent risks upstream. One of the subjects often raised is support in crisis situations. We provide them with the keys to knowing how to react and what protocols to adopt in the event of unusual behavior.

I liked this awareness raising which is more focused on prevention than on repression. We learned a lot, particularly about the risks of drinking at work and the risks of dependence. We will be able to talk about it.
